Large turnout for the GLOBE EU event marking Earth Overshoot Day, thanks to a strong line-up of speakers and signalling a high level of stakeholder interest in a successful outcome of the UN climate conference in Paris in December.
Europe needs investments to finance the transition to an environmentally sustainable economic path of growth decoupled from the use of resources. This is not only sensible environmental policy but shrewd economic policy; short-term costs of adopting decarbonizing and resource-efficient solutions are outweighed by long-term benefits to healthier air, improved ecosystem services, industrial efficiency and jobs.
On 8th of July 2014 GLOBE EU, together with its partners from Global Footprint Network, Club of Rome and IUCN EU Representative Office, organized the high-level event ‘Green Growth, Innovation and Finance’ to prepare for the Earth Overshoot Day – the day on which our societies have globally consumed the resources of our planet for one year.
